Baby Portraits

Timing is Key

Portraits of babies create lifelong memories that are cherished by all members of the family over several generations. In order for me to create the best possible portrait you need to keep in mind a few things. Schedule your portrait session during your child’s upbeat time of day, after naps and feedings, so that he or she can enjoy the experience. Remember babies are very in-tuned to our moods so try to make this a relaxed outing. You know your baby the best so choose the best time to make the appointment; I will be as flexible as I need to be. Don’t worry if he or she cries or falls asleep, some of the best poses are created during these “baby times” and they quickly become family favorites.

Personalize the Experience

Bring along all the special baby items that you have collected.  Toys and other things that will help keep your child happy and focused.  Don’t for the diapers, wipes, snacks, and favorite blanket. Bring some personal props – costumes, hats, or toys that show off the personality of your child.

Clothing Changes

Variety is imperative when picking out your child’s wardrobe. Think bold, bright, simple, and not busy and don’t’ dress him or her in stripes or patterns. For family portraits, it’s best to dress everyone in the same style, or mood. Since some portraits may show the child from head to toe, make sure your children wear matching shoes and socks.

Everyone is Welcome

It’s OK to include other people in the portrait. Some of the tenderest portraits I have taken are with mom and baby; you will cherish these images for years.

Be Flexible

Sometimes a frown, a wail or even a sleeping baby can make a great portrait. Don’t shy away from capturing a variety of expressions that capture your baby’s personality. My driving motto is “Your Life. Your Way” and I try very hard to accomplish that in every sitting.
